[Toronto, 14 July 2026] – Canadensys Aerospace announced today its program to develop and manufacture tritium-based Radioisotope Heating Units (RHUs) for deep space missions to the Moon and beyond. Canada is the world’s leading producer of tritium, a rare isotope of hydrogen, which is created as a byproduct in CANDU nuclear reactors. Tritium RHUs have several advantages over conventional plutonium or americium RHUs, allowing for safer handling and simplified spacecraft integration and transportation.
Instrumental to this activity is a collaboration with Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL), Canada’s premier nuclear science and technology organization. Canadensys’ mission-proven expertise developing lunar and planetary hardware is paired with CNL’s depth of experience working with, storing, and testing Tritium systems.
