Available Positions: 3

Background

Canadensys Aerospace Corporation is a Toronto-based space systems and advanced vehicle development company founded on the heritage and expertise that spans several of Canada’s historic space achievements of the last three decades. We blend our heritage with micro and nano space technology and smart, ruggedized vehicle designs to develop unique solutions for planetary, orbital and terrestrial environments based on modern, commercial business approaches to space program and mission development.

We are seeking high-calibre, experienced candidates to join a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team working on a series of flight-focused and near-term space development activities.

Overview of Requirements

Language

English – must be fluent in English, with strong technical documentation and presentation skills.

Required Education

Degree in Space Engineering with specialization in electrical systems design

or

Degree in Electrical Engineering with space mission specialization

Required Experience

Must have several years of experience in design of electrical systems for lunar spacecraft.

  • Extensive experience is required designing electrical systems for spacecraft operating on the lunar surface, including detailed design knowledge of mitigation strategies for this specific environment, the use of specific materials (EEE parts, solder pastes, board core materials, etc.) to deal with temperature swings from -200-degree Celsius to +100-degree Celsius, high radiation environments, and anticipated vibration loads.
  • Must have end-to-end flight experience with lunar surface hardware, from design through to assembly, integration and test (AI&T).
  • Experience with commercial space flight missions and methodologies
  • Must have experience in embedded software / firmware development, including CPU and FPGA technologies.
  • Must have strong understanding of complex electrical, thermal, and electromechanical systems, as well as EMC/EMI and radiation concerns in space environments, especially for lunar surface missions.
  • Must have expertise with:
    • Schematic capture and PCB layout tools (ALTIUM, EAGLE, etc.)
    • Board manufacturing documentation (CCA drawings, BOMs, gerbers, etc.)
    • Electrical design simulation tools
    • FPGA implementation and verification tools (synthesis, place and route, simulation, testing, timing analysis, etc.)
    • Spaceflight derating design requirements and calculations
    • Programming languages to perform embedded software / firmware development as well as to aid testing campaign scripts (C, Python, etc.)
    • Environmental testing for lunar mission flight hardware (thermal, vibration, vacuum, cryogenic, etc.)
    • Production control documentation (ECNs, NCRs, etc.)
    • Spaceflight PCB, CCA, and wire harnesses requirements (IPC, NASA/ESA technical standards)

Responsibilities

  • Support the end-to-end electrical design and development cycle, from early-phase formulation, R&D, prototyping and engineering model development, to final flight design, build, test, and delivery.
  • Schematic and board-level design of circuit boards, including design-for-manufacture aspects in coordination with contract manufacturers.
  • Documentation development and drawings for design, analysis, testing, manufacturing, product specification, report writing, etc.
  • Hardware assembly, integration, and testing for verification and validation.
  • Coordinate with direct and indirect customers to determine system requirements and resolve problems.
  • Detailed interaction throughout the design process with other related subsystems (mechanical, structural, thermal, software, etc.).
  • Maintain a high degree of proficiency in computer applications to accomplish tasks.
  • Instruct suppliers as to materials, equipment and hardware for utilization on spacecraft/space systems in accordance with approved specifications.
  • Maintain contact with product support engineering and production departments to resolve engineering problems impeding production and to assist in the incorporation of new design concepts and changes.
  • Provide guidance to technical team to solve specific and often complex design problems, which might arise during development and testing.
  • Assure management awareness of status, problems and achievements, and provide periodic design reviews and update presentations to senior management

Additional Information

  • Equal Employment Opportunity.
  • All applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada and must be able to meet the requirements necessary for current Government of Canada Controlled Goods clearance and Security clearance (Reliability status or higher).
